Local entertainment highlights: Sept. 15-21 - Lincoln Journal Star

Johnny Manhattan Orchestra, 7 p.m. Friday, DelRay Ballroom. The 17-piece big band, led by John Tavlin as Johnny Manhattan, begins its 2017-18 season performing the greatest hits from the Swing Era, including several numbers featuring vocalists Ruby Diamond (Natalie Kadlec) and Kellyn Kelly (Kellyn Wooten).

"A Taste of Wine and Broadway," 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, TADA Theatre. TADA's finest singers perform a wide variety of Broadway songs, including tunes from recent musicals to classic showstoppers. Performers include Connor Meuret, Nanette Gingery, Donna Harler Smith, Laura Lynn Schafer, Shaun Harner, Greg Ward, Josh Shafer, Cris Rook, Bill Maltas, Steve Pearson, Logan Langholdt and more with accompaniment from Cathi Wagner.

Logan Mize with J.T. Lewis and The Hanging Cowboys, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Bourbon Theatre. Kansas native Logan Mize played football at Southern Illinois before moving to Nashville to try to make it in country music. Initially signed to Sony Music, Mize is now independent and touring behind his perfectly titled new album, "Comeback Road."

Nebraska Chamber Players, 8 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday, NET Studios. The ensemble opens its 2017-18 season with works for woodwinds and pianist Jack Rinke, quintets by J.P. Sweelinck and Malcom Arnold and one of Mozart’s last works, Quintet in E-flat Major, k. 452 for winds and piano.

Jamie Reimer, 7:30 p.m. Monday, Kimball Recital Hall. The soprano's program includes three American premieres of pieces written by Robert Owens in the last years of his life. The free recital occurs on the day between the 10th anniversary of Reimer and Owens's first performance together (Sept. 17) and what would have been Owens's 93rd birthday (Sept. 19).

The Skatalites, 7:30 p.m. Monday, Bourbon Theatre. Led by original vocalist Doreen Shaffer, the ska pioneers, who started recording and performing in the early '60s and have played with everyone who is anyone in Jamaican music, are back on the road, playing their classic songs like "Guns of Navarone."

Beth Hart with Marina V, 8 p.m. Thursday, Rococo Theatre. Blues singer Beth Hart came out of the Los Angeles club scene, worked with Jeff Beck and Slash and saw her 2013 collaboration with guitarist Joe Bonamassa get a Grammy nomination. The Blues Music Award nominee is touring behind her new album, "Fire on the Floor."

20th Anniversary Celebration, 5:30 p.m. Friday, James Arthur Vineyards (Raymond). Nebraska's largest winery celebrates 20 years of award-winning Edelweiss, Vignoles and more. The celebration includes live music from Tom and Wes, birthday cake from Rabbit Hole, introduction of five new wines to commemorate 20 years and a time capsule burial. 

"The Comedy of Errors," 7:30 p.m. Thursday, McDonald Theatre. Nebraska Wesleyan University Theatre stages Shakespeare's comedy about two sets of identical twins who were accidentally separated at birth. The production is filled with slapstick humor centered around mistaken identities. Performances continue through Oct. 1.
