Details on dine-in theater and entertainment center reveal escape rooms, giant arcade - Williston Daily Herald

New details of a planned high-end movie theater and entertainment complex reveal the inclusion of at least four “escape room” adventure games and a giant arcade with more than 70 interactive games planned for the first all-dine-in cinema in Oklahoma.

That’s in addition to 14 lanes of bowling and a full-service bar and restaurant planned to open in the fall of 2018 and be built inside existing commercial properties, including Village Movies 8, at 6808 S. Memorial Drive.

The project was announced this week as a “pilot program” that includes a city of Tulsa incentive — in the form of a sales-tax rebate — to assist developers in rehabilitating existing structures.

Blake Smith, owner of the Admiral Twin Drive-In who also operates Village Movies 8, had no comment on the still-developing project.

The theater’s eight auditoriums would show first-run films in a setting that includes all-digital projection, online-reserved seating and luxury recliners with call buttons to contact wait staff for menu items.

These include “hand-stretched pizzas, spicy chicken tacos, assorted burgers, grilled sandwiches and large sharable appetizers,” according to a press release.

That’s in addition to drinks from a bar, including “hand-crafted cocktails and a variety of local craft beers.”

“This new location will exceed our guests’ expectations, not only offering an exceptional in-theatre dining experience but also include Cinergy’s premier escape rooms,” said Jamie Benson, co-founder of Cinergy.

Benson described these adventure games — a social experience in which players must use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles to escape within a set time limit — as a “one-of-a-kind experience (that) will be the future of the entertainment industry.”

The 62,000-square-foot project is the company’s first outside of four locations in Texas and will include bowling lanes “with sophisticated seating and design” where food and drinks can be enjoyed.

There will also be a “fully-loaded game floor with more than 70 interactive games (and) a large redemption store” to redeem credits earned playing the games for prizes, according to the release.

The city is describing its incentive agreement with Cinergy — which is privately held by the Benson family — as a pilot program intended to help revitalize some of Tulsa’s long-empty retail spaces.

Under the proposed agreement, the Benson family would receive a sales-tax rebate of up to $53,405 a year for 10 years as long as the entertainment center meets employment and gross sales requirements.

As currently proposed, the company would have to reach gross sales of $6.6 million a year and employ about 100 people.

Jeff Benson, co-founder and CEO, told city officials this week that he intends to spend $3.5 million renovating the existing structures and $5 million to equip the entertainment center.

World staff writer Kevin Canfield contributed to this story.
