Entertainment world reacts to landmark Alabama election result - NME.com

Famous names from across the entertainment world have reacted to the sensational election result in Alabama which saw Doug Jones become the first Democrat in 25 years to win a US Senate seat for the state.

The election, which saw Jones go up against the controversial and Donald Trump-backed Republican candidate Roy Moore, has captivated the US, with the shock result seen as a major blow to Trump’s presidency. Moore has refused to concede to Jones, who is projected to win 49.9 % of the vote to Moore’s 48.4%.

After the result was declared late last night (December 12), celebrities from across music, film and television registered the reaction to Jones’ stunning win – which narrows the Republican majority in the Senate to 51-49.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Glenn Howerton praised his home state, writing that he was “very proud”. Laverne Cox thanked the state of Alabama for the outcome of the result, while Waxahatchee simply wrote: “Alabama, I love you.”

Writing in response to Trump’s dismissal of Jones, Parks & Recreation star Adam Scott fired back: “You lost. Now go eat a fart.” Scrubs star Zach Braff also joined in the celebrations on social media, joking: “Is this what following sports is like?!”
